light,
first.

One source. One background. No props. We think a child's face is enough to look at.

02 — method

a studio,
brought to you.

We do not photograph in whatever light a room happens to have. We bring one large soft source and one neutral background, and we set them up the same way in every centre.

The result is that a portrait taken in Thornbury and a portrait taken in Brunswick look like they belong to the same set. Siblings photographed three years apart match. A centre's website does not look assembled from four different photographers.

Consistency is the product. Everything else follows from it.

03 — what we do not do
A

themed backdrops

Autumn leaves, chalkboards, seasonal borders. They date the image immediately and they compete with the subject.

B

props

Nothing is handed to a child to hold. A prop gives them something to perform with, and performance is the thing we are trying to avoid.

C

retouching children

We correct colour and exposure. We do not remove marks, scratches or gaps in teeth. Those are the parts a family later says they had forgotten.

D

package tiers

One price. Every frame. No upgrade path.
